Description
The Department of Radiology at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen covers the entire spectrum of radiology including state of the art medical imaging diagnostics and interventional therapy. Treatment areas include the diagnosis of cancers, diseases of joints, bones and soft tissues, diseases of the female breast, cardiovascular diseases, as well as accident and emergency diagnostics, virtual endoscopy with CT, Functional magnetic resonance imaging, and interventional radiology with the treatment of vascular diseases, tumors, pain therapies, etc. In order to provide comprehensive radiological care, all established and common methods of modern radiology (MRI, CT, ultrasound, digital X-ray, digital subtraction angiography and image-controlled interventions) are maintained. The Institute of Radiology, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Michael Uder, works closely together with the affiliated Department of Neuroradiology (Headed by Prof. Dr. med. Arnd Dörfler). Furthermore, there is close contact with all referring physicians, established through numerous clinical conferences, in order to ensure the closest possible networking and to thus guarantee optimal diagnostics and therapy.
Role with PROBE
Within the PROBE Consortium the team at UKER around Prof. Frank Roemer will contribute with data from a randomized clinical trial on exercise therapy and together with the team at Erasmus MC will play a leading role on all aspects of imaging within PROBE. Major expertise lies within application of imaging to epidmiologic studies and clinical trials on knee OA including the application of radiography, CT and particularly MRI.
