Description

SERGAS (Servizo Galego de Saúde) is the Galician Health Service, the public body of the Xunta de Galicia (Regional Government of Galicia) responsible for the management and provision of public healthcare in the Autonomous Community of Galicia. It integrates hospitals, health centers, and all Galician healthcare services to guarantee coverage for its citizens. In addition to promoting healthcare for the Galician population, one of its activities is to develop health research in order to offer Galician patients the best diagnostic and treatment resources. To this end, it has several Health Research Institutes, one of which is the Galician Public Foundation for Biomedical Research (INIBIC) which participates in the IHI-PROBE project. INIBIC comprises the Research Groups of the A Coruña Integrated Management Area and the University of A Coruña. Its purpose is to create a stable collaborative framework that integrates basic and clinical research developed within our geographical area, enabling a more effective transfer of scientific advances in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases to society.

Role with PROBE

The contribution of SERGAS to the PROBE project consists of providing clinical and biomarker data from the PROCOAC observational cohort, comprising patients with osteoarthritis treated within the Galician public healthcare system. SERGAS’s participation focuses on supporting the identification and validation of predictive biomarkers, the characterization of osteoarthritis patient subgroups, and the evaluation of clinically relevant endpoints, thereby contributing to improved clinical trial design and the optimization of osteoarthritis patient care.
