Research Institute – Digital Human Rights Center (RI) is a private sector research and consulting institution, technically an SME, at the interface of technology, law and society, which is engaged in questions of fundamental rights protection and ethics in the digital age from a multi- and interdisciplinary perspective. This includes technical, legal and organizational aspects of data protection and data security as well as questions concerning impact assessments, AI regulation, cybercrime and network politics. RI has been leading work packages on law, privacy, security and ethics in several international research projects in the field of AI in medical research. In these projects, RI sees itself as an enabler of the use of medical data relevant for the respective research purposes, while maintaining a high level of privacy and security and meeting highest ethical standards, and thereby building trust in making data available for research.

Role with PROBE

Research Institute - Digital Human Rights Center leads the PROBE Privacy & Ethics Council and provides expertise in ethical and legal aspects of federated databases and AI-driven biomedical research.
