Description

Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is the largest university hospital in Germany and has consistently ranked among the world’s top hospitals in recent years. With more than 24,000 employees from 131 countries working across over 100 departments and institutes, Charité is a leading center for the treatment of complex medical conditions. It brings together internationally recognized researchers, physicians, and nursing professionals to deliver excellence in research, education, and patient care.

The Julius Wolff Institute for Biomechanics and Musculoskeletal Regeneration, established in 2008, is part of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité. It brings together national and international scientists from diverse fields of musculoskeletal research and promotes global scientific exchange through extensive collaborations with leading research institutions worldwide. The Institute hosts research groups with longstanding expertise in the identification of biomechanical mechanisms underlying osteoarthritis development, the development of advanced preventive and therapeutic strategies for osteoarthritis, and the application of machine learning to complex datasets to uncover previously inaccessible characteristics related to osteoarthritis.

Berlin Movement Diagnostics (BeMoveD) is a specialized unit within the Julius Wolff Institute at Charité, comprising a multidisciplinary team of biomechanists, physiotherapists, and sport scientists with extensive expertise in biomechanical assessment and gait analysis. The unit manages a high daily volume of patients with complex orthopaedic conditions, including osteoarthritis, and is among the few clinical facilities where routine patients have access to state-of-the-art motion capture systems typically reserved for research settings.
