PROBE was delighted to host a pre-congress workshop at this year’s OARSI – Osteoarthritis Research Society International World Congress to showcase how federated data access can revolutionize OA research.

This session, led by PROBE’s academic and industrial co-leads, Erasmus MC and Novartis, explored how cross-institutional collaboration and multimodal data sharing can accelerate breakthroughs:

  • IHI PROBE: Why OA Research Will Benefit from Federated Access to Multimodal Cross-Institutional Data – Gunther Jansen, PhD (Novartis).
  • FNIH Biomarker Consortium: Lessons from large-scale biomarker collaboration – David Hunter (Erasmus MC & The University of Sydney).
  • OA Trial Bank: How shared trial data can reduce redundancy and boost efficiency – Marienke van Middelkoop (Erasmus MC).
  • PROBE (Patient Relevant Osteoarthritis endpoints using Big data Evaluation) Sita Bierma-Zeinstra (Erasmus MC).

We were happy to initiate interesting discussions on how a federated platform for sharing and training foundation models on patient data can bring real change to the lives of OA patients.

Taking advantage of the event, PROBE held it’s first joint session between the Steering Committee and the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB).

The SAB brings together global experts to provide independent, strategic guidance on:
– scientific and methodological direction
– clinical relevance and translational strategy
– the sustainability of PROBE’s outputs

At this inaugural meeting, the SAB’s roadmap for engagement was definded and we delved into data scope and how early-stage and future cohort data could be integrated into the project, as well as how the SAB will collaborate with other advisory councils (Patients, Healthcare Professionals, Ethics & Privacy, and Regulatory & HTA).
